General Ledger Manipulation
The GL documents all accounts for recording a credit union’s transactions and may contain information that helps examiners identify insider fraud.
Disappearance or Misplacement of Funds or Property
Losses may occur in credit unions through the mysterious, unexplainable disappearance or misplacement of funds or property, for example, furniture, collateral, equipment, and computers.
Theft of Cash or Other Assets
Insiders may take cash (petty cash, vault cash, or teller cash) outright. A perpetrator with access to a credit union’s deposit accounts may be able to withdraw funds from the credit union’s accounts at another depository financial institution.
