Examiner Responsibilities

The NCUA employs a measured approach to fraud detection. Examiners have four primary responsibilities with respect to fraud:

  1. Conduct defined scope and risk-focused examinations in accordance with agency policy

  2. Recognize, document, and investigate red flags that can indicate the presence of, or opportunity for, fraud

  3. Report suspected fraud to their SE immediately. Examiners should trust their instincts and consult with their SE when they suspect fraud

  4. Follow agency policy outlined in the NSPM if an examiner strongly suspects or confirms fraud
